Using Your Biochar

As a guide, mix 5-10% biochar with a soil or compost mix.

Top Dressing: Simply sprinkle activated biochar on top of the soil around the plant’s base. As you water, the biochar will sink in, delivering water and nutrients to the plants.

Root Zone Application: Mix activated biochar directly into the plant root zone using a spade or techniques like vertical mulching.

Potting Mix Addition: Incorporate biochar into the potting mix for new plants or work it into the soil of existing potted plants using your hands or a small rake.

Activating Your Raw Biochar

Combine biochar with compost, grass clippings, manure, or potting mix in a 50-50 ratio. Alternatively, you can soak biochar in nutrient-rich liquids like compost tea.
Allow the mixture to sit for at least ten days to fully charge (activate).
